In 2014 I featured a series of blog posts introducing you to 2,014 names. For the most part they were names that were brand new to me as well. Some names may be more familiar but I found the meaning or origin or some other aspect of the name made it worthy of inclusion here. You may love some of the names, you may hate some, but hopefully you enjoy learning about all of them.

Wild Swans

Yeah, I know, no one has commented on the last two posts I've made, so why am I making a new one? But I read this poem the other day by Edna St. Vincent Millay, Wild Swans, and really liked it. It is how I feel. It is copyrighted, I guess, so I will only put the first part of the poem here.

I looked in my heart while the wild swans went over.
And what did I see I had not seen before?
Only a question less or a question more;
Nothing to match the flight of wild birds flying.

  1. Dellitt - are you begging for comments? ;) I know what you mean. Birds in flight are beautiful, though Andy always yells at me cause I never look fast enough to where he is pointing! lol

  2. Yes, and I am not ashamed to beg! Have you ever seen Winged Migration? I give Angela and Brett a hard time about being documentary fanatics, but that one is pretty spectacular.

  3. The closest I've come is 'Fly Away Home' not actually documentary material ;)

  4. But isn't Fly Away Home based on a true story? I think the people that made the documentary were able to do so because of the success that the guy they based Fly Away Home on had, or anyway, that's how they learned how to do this.

  5. That's really a beautiful poem. I saw a blue heron take off from a marshy area, and it was maybe one of the most poetic, in-motion scenes in life I've ever experienced. So, I can relate to how Edna responded to the swans. Also, it makes me think of that story tape I gave Alec one year called Eleven Wild Swans. And it's a really beautiful story, which I can't remember actually, I just remember liking it.
