I like this song. I don't like it as much as In My Place or The Scientist or Clocks (all from the same album, A Rush of Blood to the Head, 2002), but I still like it quite well and enjoy listening to it again and again. The music video is kind of bizarre, though, don't you think? I also included a live performance of the song and a live acoustic performance as well. Enjoy!
Robert Frost's poem "A Cliff Dwelling" reminds me of the people who must have lived here "Oh years ago--ten thousand years" and enjoyed the beauty and safety of a cliff. A place "to rest from his besetting fears". Welcome to mine.
In 2014 I featured a series of blog posts introducing you to 2,014 names. For the most part they were names that were brand new to me as well. Some names may be more familiar but I found the meaning or origin or some other aspect of the name made it worthy of inclusion here. You may love some of the names, you may hate some, but hopefully you enjoy learning about all of them.

Song of the Day: Triple up day!
So, these are the songs of the day for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday: Til Kingdom Come (X & Y album, 2005), Politik (from A Rush of Blood to the Head, grammy award-winning album, 2002), and In My Place, also from A Rush of Blood to the Head. Coldplay wrote Til Kingdom Come to be performed with Johnny Cash, but he died before he was able to do so. I really like all three songs. Chris really got in to his performance of Politik (which was done at the Grammys)! In My Place was the song that was a hit of the three songs. So, that means we get a music video for the song, a nice acoustic version with just Chris and Johnny playing, and another acoustic version that has the piano also (the video is just a slideshow, though), and a live performance at Glastonbury in 2005 (check out the awesome red guitar Guy has). Which is your favorite? Even though In My Place was the one I recognized, I rather think I like Til Kingdom Come best.

Click here to listen to the song of the day, Twisted Logic, from the X & Y album (2005). I really rather like it. The guitars are great.

Song of the Day: Swallowed in the Sea
This is a great song! I only have time right now to post an acoustic performance of the song, but I'll be back later and post a live performance or something.
And I'm back! Love this song! Here is a live performance in 2006.

Violin Cover of Stop and Stare
I know, it's very odd that in the midst of all this Coldplay, I bring you somebody covering a song by a different band, but this just popped up on You Tube when I was watching a bunch of Coldplay covers. I really like the song Stop and Stare by One Republic, so I thought it was worth a listen to see if it was any good. I think it is fabulous. The way this guy plays the violin reminds me of why I love this instrument. It is so soulful, to me. Anyhow, I don't think you need to be at all familiar with the song he's covering to appreciate it, it's so beautiful.
Freakin' Amazing!
So, my boss's daughter turned me on to this violin version of Viva la Vida. Well, actually, I don't know for a fact that this is the cover she meant, but I would guess it is, because this guy does an amazing job. In fact, I think he is so amazing that I think it would be cool if Coldplay had him come up on stage and play sometime. I mean, he is really that good.
I also found this piano cover of Viva la Vida that I think is quite good. Apparently the guy played it from ear, no sheet music.

Song of the Day: The Hardest Part
First, let me comment on yesterday's song of the day, Low. Um, yeah, I don't like it. Now, on to today's song. I love it! The video is kinda bizarre to me, but love the music.
And just to comment a little on which Coldplay songs I've been enjoying lately. Spies. It didn't grab me the first time I listened to it, but now I think it's totally cool and love listening to it. I'm enjoying listening to Yellow almost as much as Viva la Vida (crazy). And Trouble, been loving that. Also, I love how relaxing Sparks is and I do like Shiver (just not as much as the others I've mentioned). I think I need to buy another Coldplay cd, though, two do not seem to be enough!

Song of the Day: Low
Even though it is technically Tuesday, this is the song of the day for Monday. But it's too late at night for me to play it, so I can't tell you what I think yet. I'll get back to you on that! Here's a video of them performing it live in 2005 (it's from the X & Y album from 2005).

Song of the Day: Speed of Sound and A Message
Until I fell in love with Viva la Vida, Speed of Sound was my favorite Coldplay song, and of course, it's one of their more popular songs. That is the Song of the Day for yesterday. Today's song of the day is A Message. There's the music video for Speed of Sound, a live version, which is several live performances blended in the video, I think, a short clip where they explain where they got the idea for the song Speed of Sound, then there's the video for A Message, also, I've included an acoustic version of A Message and a live version.

Song of the Day: Talk and X & Y
Well, I missed doing a song of the day yesterday, so that one is Talk, which I really like (and I think the video is fun) and X & Y. Actually, there are two videos for Talk: the music video and a live performance at the Grammys. And really, the X & Y clip is not a video, but the only way I could find for you to hear the song. Oh, for a bonus, I've added an interview the band did about making this album (X & Y).
Also, a comment about some Coldplay fans. I see comments that they only liked Parachutes or A Rush of Blood to the Head. Those two probably are better than X & Y, but have they not listened to the new cd? I think it's fantastic and better than all 3 of the previous albums. I don't know exactly what it is they don't like about the new cd, I am just honestly incapable of seeing what flaws it has or why someone wouldn't like it.

I missed it!
Thank goodness for the internet, because I missed watching Coldplay on Jay Leno last night. Just totally forgot about it. So here they are playing Viva la Vida and Lost.

Song of the Day: Fix You
I already know that I really like this song. So, here's the music video and as a special treat, video clips that tell the story of Anakin Skywalker to the tune of Fix You. I picked this one cause I thought it was a nice story to tell in conjunction with the song, but I almost didn't post it because, someone tell Lucas this, THERE WERE NO FIREWORKS AFTER ANAKIN DIED! But I thought you might like the video, so I'm going against every moral fiber in my body and posting this.

Song of the Day: White Shadows
So here is today's song of the day, White Shadows, from the X&Y album (2005). I like the lyrics, just not the music. What's your take on this song?

Song of the Day: Square One and What if?
I got a day behind on this somehow, so today you have Saturday and Sunday. I think Square One is just an average song but I rather like What if. Tell me your thoughts.

This is Friday's Song of the Day. It comes from the Parachutes album (2000). I like it well enough. What do you think?

Genealogy this Sunday
I know, it seems like I have pretty much three topics I blog on: Coldplay, camping, and genealogy. Anyhow, I will be going to the genealogy library this Sunday so if you want to come with me, just let me know and we'll arrange a time.
Song of the Day: High Speed
Today's Coldplay song of the day is High Speed, from their Parachutes album from 2000. This isn't my favorite song by Coldplay, but it's nice enough. This video has two songs, so if you don't want to listen to the first, move the little circle at the bottom to where it says 5:15/9:25 in the gray area next to the red line. (oh, the first song is Everything's not lost, also from the Parachutes album)

Song of the Day: Parachutes
Today's song is Parachutes, from the album of the same name (2000). It's very short, less than a minute. Click on this link to listen to the song (you still have press play once you're connected to the site). My comment about this song is that it doesn't seem complete. I like what there is of it, soft, slow, very pretty. What did you think of the song?

Coldplay Song of the Day: Trouble
Today's song is Trouble, from the album Parachutes (2000). I like this song even better the more I listen to it. I think it's lyrics are great and Chris Martin's voice is kind of haunting (I think). Anyway, tell me what you think.
There are two music videos for Trouble.
Here is a live performance of Trouble. Nice how it's all in black and white.
This video is an acoustic version with just Chris Martin playing the guitar.

Camping!
Actually, I'm not going camping in July. But here is when I plan to go camping for the next year and a half (with some of the places listed). Let me know if you're interested in going with me on any of these trips!
August 15 & 16 (possibly come home either the 16th or 17th) ~ my roommate, my dad, and I are going to go to Payson Lakes, which is on Mt. Nebo. That should be fun. Mt. Nebo is the highest mountain in Utah county
Sep 19-20 (come home on the 20th) ~ I'm planning on going up in the mountains, maybe down around Redmond somewhere. Haven't decided for sure. So far, no one is going with me on this trip.
Oct 17-19 (come home on the 19) ~ go to Capitol Reef! I haven't been there in 15 years and it is my favorite of the national parks
Nov 14-16 (come home on the 16) ~ San Rafael Swell, not sure exactly where, though
Mar 13-15/2009 ~ either Kolob Canyon in Zions or the Needles in Canyonlands
Apr 17-19/2009 ~ either somewhere around Escalante or Goblin Valley
May 15-17/2009 ~ maybe go to the Henry Mountains?
June 20-28/2009 ~ yep, a week long trip. Probably we will actually stay in a lodge or hotel, but planning to go to either Glacier National Park or Yellowstone with Mom and Dad and possibly Angela and Brett.
Jul 17-19/2009 ~ camp in the mountains somewhere, haven't decided where yet
Aug 14-16/2009 ~ maybe camp on the Boulder mountain?
Sep 18-20/2009 ~ maybe go to the Uintas?
Oct 16-18/2009 ~ I would like to go down to Mesa Verde in Colorado. Maybe Mom and Dad could go. We would probably stay in a motel.
Nov 13-15/2009 ~ I think I might like to go to the Book Cliffs to camp

Coldplay Song of the Day
I just thought a fun way to count down to the concert in November would be to have a different Coldplay song each day to listen to. So, today's song is Yellow (from the album Parachutes which came out in 2000). According to Wikipedia, Yellow is the song that introduced the world to Coldplay. I really love this song. I love the way Chris Martin's voice sounds as he sings it, but the other two things that I really like about the song are, well, that everything is "yellow", I think that is kind of cool, and also, when he says "look at the stars, look how they shine for you". Also a nice idea. I think, basically, I like this song because it's simple and sweet.
You can watch the music video, if you'd like, by clicking below.
Click on the video to see Coldplay perform Yellow live in concert.
Here's Chris Martin doing an acoustic version of Yellow with Noel Gallagher playing the guitar.
I thought I would also include this piano version of Yellow with just Chris Martin singing.
